This is one of the key areas of Looptimer: transitions. I can write for hours on how important clear and effective transitions are, but if you have spent any time bouncing between activities, you know what I'm saying.
Classroom transitions with visual timing
One of the best use cases for a visual timer is how teachers can use it to signal a transition for students without bringing a ton of attention to it (if that makes sense). It's saying focused on what needs to be focused on, and allowing a gentle reminder to change when needed. The student who heard it but cannot translate "a few more minutes" into anything their brain can act on. The student who is mid-task and cannot stop because the end came without warning. Then the teacher ends up managing all of it. Repeating the cue. Counting down verbally. Watching the room resist.
The problem is abstract time. Students (and some/most adults) cannot see it. It's crazy that we rely on sounds and interruptions or teachers having to interrupt to switch gears. Then if you have anyone impacted by ADHD like executive function that our founder disuccses, it's even harder. Remove that dependency and the transition changes. This is where the visual bar becomes essential. We want to have a calm, yet direct transition of time because students now have information they can use.
What teachers are actually using it for:
A teacher who works at an elementary school and found the answer in Gradient Mode << (I love Gradient Mode btw). The light shifts from blue to red as the session progresses. By the time cleanup needs to start, the ring has already been telling students for minutes that the end is close. “My students see how much time they have to play before the timer winds down to red,” she wrote, “and then they know it's time to start cleaning up.”
Another fun story is that a teacher told us she carries a Looptimer in her pocket or purse. Hearing that students find it easy to read is really great feedback because we spent so much time on the visual sight of the timer.

Why does the visual side of Looptimer work for students
Here's the thing: an analog clock requires students to read time. A digital display requires them to interpret numbers. Both assume a baseline of clock literacy that not every student has, and neither gives a student with ADHD or a processing difference anything they can sense without stopping to decode.
A filling loop requires nothing. Each side of the square frame represents 25 percent of the session. Students who cannot read an analog clock understand it immediately. Students who fixate on digits can turn the display off and read only the light. The visual works across a wider range of learners than any text-based format.

Sound options for any environment
Looptimer runs completely silent if you need it to. The light flashes when the timer expires. That is the only alert.
For quieter reading blocks, silent mode removes any auditory disruption. For louder environments, the high setting reaches 100 decibels, loud enough to cut through a busy room without being jarring. One device handles both. You do not need separate timers for different parts of the day.
For students who need tools for ADHD or sensory sensitivities, the difference between a sudden alarm and a light flash is significant. It is not a small accommodation. It is the difference between a clean transition and a context crash.
Setting it up for a rotation or work block
The setup takes about 10 seconds.
- Mount it magnetically on the whiteboard, or set it on the angled base facing the room
- Turn the dial to set the duration
- Select Gradient Mode if you want the color to signal the approaching end
- Press start
The loop moves. Students can see it from their seats. The teacher does not have to call time. The room self-regulates.
For center rotations: set one unit per group, each at the same duration. Every group can see their own loop without watching the teacher for cues. The rotation ends because the light said so, not because you announced it.
The 99-minute maximum supports a full class period without resetting. Standard visual timers cap at 60 minutes. If your block runs 80 or 90 minutes, Looptimer is the only physical visual timer that covers it without interruption.
